Patient Puzzles

When constructing a jigsaw puzzle experienced builders first sort the pieces by color and type (edge pieces and other pieces).  Then slowly the whole image becomes clear as pieces are assembled.  The other day it struck me that things are similar when trying to diagnose some complicated situations for patients.   It’s necessary to collect all the clues from the patient history, their physical examination, imaging tests and medical records.  Actually looking at the images from prior studies or surgeries can sometimes be the key piece that makes the puzzle all make sense.  Sometimes it takes a while to get all the puzzle pieces and sometimes even then to figure out how they fit together. It’s worth the time it takes.

Completing the patient puzzle is even better than the patient completion of a puzzle!
