One of my patients recently shared this quote with me.
“I've learned that people will forget what you said, people will forget what you did, but people will never forget how you made them feel.” Maya Angelou
I have seen various estimates of how much we remember from what we hear. It’s not good news. On average we only recall 20-40%. While I certainly don’t want patients to forget what we discuss (and that’s why we have so many handouts) and I don’t want them to forget the things that we do, I do believe that Maya Angelou is correct. None of us forget how others make us feel. So thank you all. I really enjoy my patients and our interactions. I know that I will never forget how they make me feel. It is a true joy and privilege to do what I do.
