Recently I came across an inscription from a dear friend and mentor Dr. Douglas T. Harryman II. Doug was an internationally recognized shoulder surgeon and researcher as well as a true gentleman and a man of faith. He passed away after a battle with cancer fifteen years ago, in the prime of his career. He wrote this note in a textbook which he donated to the WVU Orthopedic Library. I saved a copy of the inscription to remember his insight and wisdom. It is well worth sharing.
Shoulders are important to God and man!
It is where the government rests (Is 9:6), where security is found (Deut 33:12) and where burdens are lifted (Ps81:6a). Use these references to help treat and manage the physical needs of our patients shoulders but consider the spiritual value in all you do!

I remain grateful to Doug for the orthopedic and life lessons he imparted to me. His legacy has blessed many, many patients.
