Pain and trials are part of our daily lives. Therefore, living with these things is something that requires effort and persistence. It is not easy to deal with severe pain, whether it is physical pain and/or emotional pain. However, some people deal with pain in such a way that it consumes them mentally. Other people have severe physical pain and disabilities, which does not seem to badly affect their mental attitude. Help is often available for our patients’ physical pain through physical therapy, medications and sometimes surgery. The stress and anxiety that can also come with these problems sometimes require special attention as well. I think there is a major role for faith in coping with life's trials. There can also often be a role for psychologists and sometimes medication in working through these problems. As a medical provider, it is important always remember to deal with not just our patients' physical pain, but also the mental side. This link is an excellent introduction and discussion of this interaction and I highly encourage you to read it: https://www.psychologytoday.com/blog/some-assembly-required/201401/pain-is-inevitable-suffering-is-optional
