Hip fractures are a common occurrence among the elderly, usually as a result of a fall. Efforts to decrease the incidence of fractures have included emphasis on bone health and fall prevention and between 1995 and 2005 fracture incidence did decrease in the US. This new product caught my eye the other day. It’s a wearable airbag tucked into a belt that seniors can wear. When it detects a fall the bags inflate protecting the hip from impact. I hope it works.
